Celebrating our Roots and Shoots

Well – that’s it for another year. And what a fantastic week it was!

With over 60 programmed events, this year’s festival brought together thousands of people from inside and outside of Nairn to celebrate the very best in local and national arts and culture.

From Gaitherin’ Day to the Festival Finale, Leila Aboulela to Iain Bain, Avocet to Alan Bisset, Margaret Kirk to the KEEK show, Karen Campbell to Cameron McNeish, Kapka Kassabova to Evija Laivinia, Moving Minds to Portrait of Nairn, marc marnie to Musick Fyne, June Nadel-Klein to Sir Tom Devine, this was our most diverse festival to date.

The photographs from the festival can now be viewed on our website.

The support for this year’s festival has been truly wonderful. On behalf of the organising committee, I would like to offer my thanks to:

Anyone who bought a ticket to an event, brought a friend along, visited an exhibition, volunteered at the festival or simply helped to spread the word about the programme. You are the lifeblood of the festival. Thanks to you there was a real buzz this year, a testament to Nairn’s community spirit and enthusiasm for the arts.

All our local sponsors and supporters. These are challenging times for smaller events like ours. Without your backing, the festival would not be possible at all. So thank you so much for your assistance this year. Even a little bit of help goes a long way.

Our principal funders Creative Scotland, The Davidson Trust, Event Scotland, Foundation Scotland and Highland Council. We are indebted to these organisations for their ongoing support, allowing us to bring such a diverse range of writers, artists, musicians and other performers to Nairn.

Thanks also to everyone who completed our festival survey. We have read each one carefully and taken your feedback on board.

We have some very exciting plans for next year which we cannot wait to tell you about! Watch this space for more details - be sure to sign up to our e-newsletter or follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

If you are interested in becoming more involved in next year’s event, either as an artist, performer, sponsor or volunteer, Elle Tyler, our festival coordinator, would love to hear from you.

Thank you – and see you next year.
